My Experiences

Here you will find a brief description of some experiences that aided in my professional development.

November 2022 - present

Substitute Teacher

Since November 2022 I've been working as a substitute teacher and as a paraeducator in Orlando, FL. As a substitute teacher, I have taught classes from Kinder through 3rd grade. As a paraeducator, I have worked with students from VPK through 5th grade, mostly in special education units. Though, I have been in general education classrooms as well.

August 2022 - September 2022

Veterinary Technician

At this job position, I reinforced how to run fecal, and heartworm tests. I also learned how to take digital X-Rays. Another task I learned was how to run CBC on Idexx's Procyte DX Machine, and Chemistry Profiles on Idexx's Catalyst Dx Blood Chemistry Analyzer. I was also shown how to restrain patients, but I was not able to successfully perform in that area. Ultimately, this led to me being let go from this company, as well. Now, I am focusing on other areas in which I would like to acquire more experience outside of veterinary medicine.

September 2021 - August 2022

Veterinary Receptionist

I worked as part of the front desk in a veterinary hospital, in the Central Florida area. Working at this position instilled in me the desire to learn how to provide customer service to the best of my abilities to our clientele, in the veterinary medicine field. I learned how to effectively communicate with my peers, customers, and managers alike, in a fast-paced environment. We focused on the needs of the client, while also maximizing productivity and efficiency in the workplace, to meet our goals as a team.

July 2021 - August 2021

Veterinary Receptionist/Technician

This was my first job out of college. I was cross-trained as a veterinary technician/receptionist; unfortunately, due to my lack of customer skills at the time, I was let go from this position. In light of that feedback, I decided to pursue a position as a receptionist. I also took a course from UCF + Gener8tor on Upskilling. Throughout that course, I acquired skills relevant to customer service and sales, which helped me to undertake the new position I was offered at the following veterinary hospital.

January 2020 - May 2021

Undergraduate Student Researcher, Honors Undergraduate Thesis (HUT) Scholar

As a senior undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida, I was involved in the Honors Undergraduate Thesis (HUT) program, where I developed a thesis alongside two faculty members of the Biology Dept. My responsibilities included writing a thesis proposal to submit to the HUT Program, attending lab meetings, attending professional development workshops, successfully defending my thesis during the Spring 2021 semester, and submitting my final thesis to the UCF STARS Repository.

May 2019 - May 2019

Student Trainee

Through Developing Future Biologists, a merit-based week-long course at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, MI, I had the opportunity to develop and polish my laboratory skills. As part of the program, I received personal and professional development workshops. I also had the opportunity to network with faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students from the University of Michigan, and with other students that participated in the Developing Future Biologists program.

Aug. 2016 - Dec. 2017

Pre-Veterinary Internship

I performed three veterinary field practices at the Hospital de Animales de Perla del Sur, Ponce, Puerto Rico. In my time as an intern, I learned how to collect the patient's information. Another of my duties was to clean kennel cages. I also learned how to handle animals, and how to prepare vaccines for dogs and cats.
